During the coronavirus pandemic, the Government has provided millions of pounds of funding to Rochdale Council to support local businesses, along with the discretion to distribute those funds to those who need them.
Whilst many businesses have already benefitted there are still those who have been unable to access that support.
I want more local people to be able to benefit from the Government’s Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) scheme. So today I have written to the Leader and Members of Rochdale Council urging them to approve plans to open their allocation of Government funding to more local businesses.
Businesses who have not been told to close, but who’s revenues have been severely affected by coronavirus, like pet groomers.
People with home-based businesses, like driving instructors.
People who ‘rent a chair’ in other premises, like nail technicians and tattoo artists.
And many others like them who operate legitimate businesses and need to access support.
The Government has provided this funding and I want to see it used to support as many local people, businesses, and families as possible.
