Welcome to my new weekly blog about life as a Member of Parliament, representing the people of Heywood and Middleton Constituency. Find out what I have been up to this week; what I have been voting on, who I have met and places that I have visited. and Remember if there is an issue that you want to raise with me you can always email me at [email protected] or call my constituency office on 01706 538 262.
This week has been a busy time both in Westminster and the constituency with lots of business on matters from international trade to education.
I have supported the Government in moving the UK Internal Market Bill, ensuring that we are in the best possible position to exit the EU on schedule and deliver on the promise that I made to the people of Heywood and Middleton in my election campaign.
I have met with the Chancellor Rishi Sunak to discuss the support that is being provided for businesses as they reopen and have fed back the views and comments that I have had from business owners and operators here about what they need to help them recover.
With school now reopen I contacted Headteachers and Senior Leaders across the whole constituency to hear about how they are coping with the return to school and the new covid-safe measures. We had a lot of very productive conversations and I will be taking their comments to Westminster to discuss with Ministers.
I have been very fortunate to have been chosen to take part in the Parliamentary Armed Forces scheme so on Thursday and Friday I took part in the first of a number of visits.
On Saturday I was back in the Constituency and visited David Lloyd Leisure in Bowlee General Manager David showed me the extensive measures that they have put in place to make sure that people returning to the club are as safe as possible. Their effort and attention to member safety was incredible and extremely reassuring.
I also enjoyed some of the great hospitality that our constituency has to offer when I popped into Thornberries in Alkrington for a spot of lunch. The food and hospitality was incredible and I highly recommend a visit if you are in the area. It is essential that we all keep up the support for our local businesses, especially our many excellent independents.
Today I have travelled back down to Westminster to prepare for another busy week, so keep a watch on my news feeds and if there is anything that I can do to help you please do get in touch on email at [email protected] or call my constituency office on 01706 538 262.
