Although the legislative work at Westminster may be slowing down, there was still plenty to do this week as your MP.
On Monday I stood in for a colleague on a Statutory Instrument related to Energy markets. After nearly 10 weeks on the Energy Bill it was a return to form, but I'm glad to say that that's the last work I'll be doing in this area for a bit!
On Tuesday I met with apprentices from BAE Systems and talked about their experiences getting into an apprenticeship. What's clear is that there's a lot of work to do to make sure young people are aware of their options.
Later in the day I had the very great pleasure of being able to take Middleton GP Dr Shahid to no.10 Downing Street as part of the Health Secretary's reception for the 75th Anniversary of the NHS. Dr Shahid is doing really innovative work in the community and it was wonderful to recognise the work of all the people who make the Service what it is.
On Wednesday, always my busiest day, I had meetings on libraries and literacy and met the President of the Cypriot House of Representatives. We talked about the important relationship between our countries and the great opportunities of further cooperation.
On Thursday I was at the Ministry of Defence Main Building on Whitehall all day for a series of briefings as part of the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme. I was also very humbled to hear that I'd been selected to attend the prestigious Royal College of Defence Studies starting in September.
Back in the Constituency this weekend, I had my usual meetings with constituents before heading out to hand out the first of the awards for my Volunteers Week Competition.
Thank you to everyone who voted for local heroes and I'll be handing out more awards soon.
