This week Parliament has been on recess, but that doesn’t mean that the work stops!
Whist Westminster isn’t sitting I’ve had the opportunity to catch up on constituency issues with my team and follow up on my cycle lane survey in Castleton and the highways issues you highlighted in my potholes survey.
We also had some good news this week in the form of the second tranche of the Culture Recovery Fund – Rochdale Borough’s cultural trust Link4Life received another £317,000 on top of nearly £670,000 from the first allocation – another £218,900 went to other applicants in Heywood and Middleton, so all in all quite a success story.
The fund will help reopen facilities and support programmes which would have closed permanently because of the pandemic, so to get grants of this size is really good news.
It was also nice to get a message from Health Secretary Matt Hancock thanking NHS workers and volunteers in Heywood and Middleton for their work supporting the vaccination programme. At the time of writing roughly half of all adults in the constituency have had their first jab, which is pretty remarkable, so a huge thank you from me for all that you’re doing.
On Thursday I had the pleasure of meeting the team at Veterans into Logistics, based in Birch Mill. They’re helping veterans get the training and support needed to find jobs in haulage and logistics. It was great to see their commitment to giving service leavers the support and guidance to get on after the Forces and I’m looking forward to helping them reach even more veterans in future.
You can find out more about them here.
Finally, on Monday the rule of six returned meaning that families can get together over the Easter bank holiday so I’ll be taking the opportunity to see my own for the first time in months and I hope you all get the opportunity to do the same.
Have a wonderful, relaxing and safe Easter bank holiday weekend.
