This week has been extremely busy, I don’t think that anyone needs me to rehash my thoughts on free holiday meal vouchers or my vote. Anyone who does need to understand my though and vote can see my full statement here: https://www.chrisclarkson.org.uk/news/chris-clarkson-mp-statement-opposition-motion-free-school-meals
I have worked extremely hard with my North West Parliamentary colleagues, Ministers, the Chancellor and the Prime Minister to ensure that as Greater Manchester entered Tier 3 restrictions there were funds in place to support people here.
I attended a Parliamentary Armed Forces day this week where I met Royal Navy personnel who are charged with protecting our country, borders and waters. It was a real privilege to be shown first-hand the work that they are doing and to understand the ways in which we as parliamentarians can support them better. It was also quite by chance that we docked right alongside HMS Middleton.
This week I also spoke in the house in support of the Animal Welfare Bill, which will give our authorities better provision to protect animal welfare and bring in longer sentences for people who abuse and mistreat animals. Earlier this year I met Fin the Police Dog and his handler. I am pleased that this new bill will also seek to give better protection to service animals like Fin.
We have had a very productive catch up with our local policing team for Heywood and Middleton this week where we have raised issues from residents about burglaries and car crime in the area. They have assured my office that they are doing everything in their power to increase patrols in hot-spot areas. They are also targeting an increased level of anti-social behaviour in Heywood which has been a point of concern for a number of constituents.
It has been ‘Love Our Colleges’ week this week so I have been doing my part to champion the amazing work that is being done in our area by our outstanding further education providers, like Hopwood Hall College, Cardinal Langley and Rochdale Sixth Form College. I cannot say enough how pleased I am that we have such amazing provision for local people.
My inbox has been extremely busy this week, but my team and I are working hard to respond to everyone as quickly as possible. If you do have a concern or issue that I can help with please email me at [email protected] or call my office on 01706 538 262.
